Review: Haunted (Dreaming Anastasia #2)

Haunted (Dreaming Anastasia #2)
by Joy Preble

Paperback: 290 pages
Publication Date: February 1, 2011

Anne is trying her best to live a normal life, but she's still got some power sparking inside her. She's hearing and seeing things that she tries her best to ignore-like being haunted by a Russian sea nymph that claims the princess Anastasia is still alive.

That's when Ethan Kozninsky-he of the stunning blue eyes, thick brown hair, and former immortal status-returns. Anne soon realizes that everything she's been trying to forget might be impossible to bury.

My Review / Rating: 4 of 5 stars

Russian folklore, crazy mermaids, undiscovered magic and a haunting destiny. Sound strange? Well this is what Anne's normal life has somehow turned into. Haunted was an enchanting tale about what happened to a girl named Anne, who recently found out she was a distant relative to Anastasia in Preble's first book, Dreaming Anastasia.

This was a great sequel to Dreaming Anastasia. We left off thinking that Anne had fulfilled her destiny to save Anastasia and that her life would go back to normal. Little did she know that there was so much more awaiting her. "Stories within stories. Secrets within secrets." This is what the witch Baba Yaga tells her. Now Anne's destiny is to unravel these secrets and make sense of these stories to save the lives of the people she loves most.

I loved all the Russian folklore in this story. The idea that Anastasia could have lived and has living ancestors today is something that sounds so intriguing. Preble's re-telling was modern and exciting. She even added a new love interest in Haunted, making for a messy love triangle. Overall, a magical tale that all history lovers will devour.

  1. Funny, I just got a free copy of Dreaming Anastasia!!!

  2. Great review! I've never heard of this series, but I'll keep my eyes open now, because it sounds like I'd like it!
